My N-Scale Layout

[Home]
With some new found free time I had in 1998-99, I decided to build a n-scale layout in my basement. I drew up a track plan somewhat based on an HO layout I had seen in a book years ago. In a 4' x 6' space I managed to fit a double mainline track, 4 track freight yard, and three spur engine yard. This was accomplished by elevating the yard above the main line. The maximum grade is 3%. A large mountain (named Beer Mountain, by my bandmates because it shares the area in the basement with the brewery) covers almost half the layout and the result is that a good portion of the mainline is underground. The other side of the layout has a flatter area, where there is a lake and a cottage community.

The layout was never finished, and never will be. I moved in the summer of 2000, and this would not fit up the basement stairs. With some work, the benchwork separates into two, but I decided to just leave this behind for the future renters (or landlord sledge hammer). The next layout I build, I plan to build in completed small sections which can be moved easier.
