Spice Rack

[Home]
After getting annoyed at digging through the cupboard for the past many years to find the correct spices while cooking, I finally decided to build myself a rack to hold them all. Not liking the ordinary designs I had observed for sale in various stores around town, I came up with what I believe is a unique design and met my specifications. Finding bottles at a decent price was a little bit of a challenge, but I finally found some nice ones at The Glebe Emporium (Bank St., Ottawa). The cashier balked a little when I asked for 40 of them, but after digging around in storage they came up with the quantity I needed.

Once I had the bottles, I preceded to design the rest of the unit around their dimensions. I provide the plans so others may learn or copy for personal use. Please no commercial use. If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer... send an email.

Spice Rack Plans

There are 5 levels of 8 bottle holders each. The bottles rest on 3/16" dowels. All wood panels are 1/4" oak. The angle of this photo makes the top decorative 3/8" dowel look bent, but it really is straight.

View of the whole thing, minus the bottles.

The bottom section contains a small cabinet with hinged doors to access extra bulk spice.

Here is a view of the entire unit with all the bottles installed. The labels were simply printed with my computer printer onto cardstock, and are held into the faces with a shallow dove-tail route.

After getting annoyed at digging around in the drawer for the correct size spice spoon, I made this simple matching oak hanger rack for them.
